How some trucking companies contribute to accidents

On Behalf of | Jan 31, 2025 | Truck Accidents |

Different factors contribute to truck accidents, and some of those factors are not directly related to the driver. A trucking company may make a mistake that causes an accident. Thus, if a truck driver hits you, their employer may be liable for injuries.

Here is how this can happen:

Poor training

Trucking companies hire drivers of all skill levels, including those at the entry level (drivers who have just received their commercial driver’s license (CDL)). A trucking company should properly train all drivers to ensure they can safely operate its trucks. But this is not always the case.

Some companies fail to train drivers on crucial matters like driving on mountain roads because they believe they learned them in driving school. Consequently, they put drivers who may not have been well-trained behind the wheel. It’s also not uncommon for trucking companies to deliberately overlook training because of the high demand for drivers and to save money.

If you drive around a poorly trained driver, the chances of them making a mistake that could lead to an accident can be high.

Poor truck maintenance

A significant percentage of truck accidents occur due to equipment failure, for example, failed brakes, tire blow-outs, faulty steering systems, damaged suspension systems, broken lights and faulty horns. Trucks should be inspected regularly to make necessary repairs. A trucking company that fails to do this may be considered negligent.

Pressure on drivers

Some trucking companies put pressure on drivers to deliver. They give drivers unrealistic schedules and workloads. Such pressure can encourage a driver to act aggressively on the road, endangering other road users.

Truck drivers are not always at fault for accidents, or at least not the only at-fault party. If you are involved in a truck accident, learn more to understand who should be answerable.
